The Next Shot

Before you hit the shot (every shot) decide what you want your next shot to be... and the one after that.  Plan one, two, even three shots ahead.

The trip to the hole requires a series of shots.  The best Plans balance your Skill and Strategy.

  • Is there is water or a bunker in your landing area (on this shot? the next one?).  If you can't carry (hit past) the trouble, hit a shorter club and avoid the hazard.

  • Dogleg Right?  Be on the left side of the fairway for your best shot at the green.

  • Trees or bunker on the left? Aim toward the right side.

  • Most of us should forget about the flag and aim for the center of the green.

  • For chip shots:  Green slopes back to front?  Leave yourself an uphill putt.  Green slopes right to left?  Leave yourself an uphill putt.

Pick a safe landing area to position your next shot, and the next one... and the next one...
